Sibling weddings for us are always fun. If you’ve been following us for years then you know that is so true. We met Cortney and Matt at a wedding we shot earlier this year in April. Cortney and Erin are stepsisters. These girls are also total babes and some of those most sweet women I know. When Cortney and Matt reached out to hire us we were so pumped. There was not a question in their head for hiring us. Cortney doesn’t know this but I found out at her wedding day that she actually broke contract with her other photographer because she wanted us. Well I’m sad for the photographer. I was so flattered and all that she would go that far to have us at her wedding. One of my favorite parts of Cortney and Matt and their marriage and relationship is that they already have kids together. And what I thought was so special was that their bridal party was made up 100% of their kids and family members. I wasn’t sure what the day would look like having some young kids in the wedding party as bridesmaids and groomsmen but I’ll tell you, it definitely was a beautiful experience that we loved experiencing as photographers. The kids were great, the parents were awesome and you could tell that Cortney and Matt just had the best day ever.

Now let’s talk about the weather. Cortney fully knew and trusted us for our rain plan. Everyone including the venue aimed for the two of them to get married outside. And married outside they did. It had rained all morning and it poured. It even started to rain right after their first look and their family photos. Since there were scattered showers, we used umbrellas as we needed to and were able to shoot in between the scattered rain. Something that was super special and unique with their ceremony was that they decided to still get married outside but it was standing room only for the guests. So we worked with the venue to create what we called the human aisle. The human aisle allows there to be a center aisle we’re guests can still watch their couple walk the aisle to their ceremony but continue to stay standing through the duration of the 10 to 15 minute ceremony. A great option for an overcast day because the lighting was incredible. Cortney walked down a beautiful staircase while Matt watched her walk to him as his future wife.

All day long you could just tell how much Matt loves her and respects her. What many people don’t know is weeks before their wedding they went on vacation as a family and their house flooded. Talk about inconvenient, expensive and unplanned, oh and lets not forget, emotionally exhausting. When I talked with them, they were optimistic. I just encouraged them and they were so level headed through the weeks leading up to the wedding. The day was full of laughter, dancing and so much fun. The planner and I ended up decorating the cake which for us was fun and Cortney loved what we designed.

Intros at reception were super fun as the parents allowed their kids to incorporate personality and funny props into it. Their first dance was special as they took dance lessons leading up to the wedding for its debut. They danced while it started to sprinkle and guested underneath umbrellas during the first dance out on the patio. The rest of the night was full of things that we had never seen before. Instead of an anniversary dance, throughout dinner the songs of guest’s first dance songs played and couples were invited to dance if it was their song. Instead of a honeymoon fund they had two glass jars on their sweetheart table to take bets for who would smash cake into the others face. Neither happened but instead the best man got tricked into it.

Matt and Cortney, what an awesome day. What a special wedding for us to be a part of a document. We are so excited for you to see everything and share photos with family and friends. Again shooting your wedding was so special because it’s people we already knew. We wish you guys the best and can’t wait for what I had for you and your family. You will raise beautiful sweet caring children because that is who you are. We wish you all the best!
