Most of our client meetings start out with some introductions. We ask the couple how they met, where they fell in love, what they love most about each other, how he proposed, and what they are looking forward most to getting married. If helps us identify WHO they are. Of course they are our client, but they are humans, they have stories, and those things matter.
Last night, we met with a couple who asked us in return, “What about you guys? What’s your story?” I looked over at my husband and smiled. For the first time in a while in a client meeting, we got to share not just how we got to where we are but, how we fell in love doing what we loved.
For those that haven’t heard the story of how and when we met, here it is.
Patrick and I were born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. We grew up in the same church. We were in the same children’s choir. Patrick competed on the exact baseball field that I walked passed and glanced at everyday while walking home from high school. Patrick went to Calvert Hall, I went to Bryn Mawr. But we didn’t know each other. We actually didn’t meet until December 2009, when we had moved home from college, in our early 20s. We were friends and started dating in 2010, but I broke up with Patrick. But it was only for 24 hours. I couldn’t stand to be away from him. Patrick pursued me like it was the only thing that mattered to him. He won me over. We dated for 3 years before tying our own knot in November of 2013.
As far as photography goes, Maggie was starting middle school when she had her first “real” digital camera. She took it everywhere. Youth group trips, family vacations, and anywhere she thought she might use it. Maggie took it overseas, when she lived in Spain, and traveled to Africa, India, and Central America. Maggie pursued photography alongside every hobby & sport, every internship in college, and every job post-college. While attending college at Oral Roberts University and pursuing a business degree, Maggie traveled the world, documenting the stories of peoples lives, hoping one day, she’d get paid to travel and take pictures in some capacity. Patrick was a hobbyist pursuing professional baseball until he met her. They decided together they would be better, and pursued photography as a career, alongside our jobs until we could go full-time, which was in the Spring of 2014, when Maggie was released from her full-time job at a branding agency called Blue Ocean Ideas. The timing was perfect and God fully knew what was in store. A year ago in May of 2014 they dove in head first and went full-time with our wedding photography business. God has blessed our business beyond what we could imagine in 1 full year. We will never look back. Best decision in 2014 was stepping out in faith to pursue what had been seeded within us for years and years.
