Alexa & Patrick’s Aruba Engagement Session at The Marriott Stellaris
There’s something about golden light, swaying palm trees, and turquoise water that makes an engagement session feel like a love story unfolding in real time — and that’s exactly what happened when Alexa and Patrick met me on the grounds of the Marriott Stellaris Casino Resort in Aruba, just hours before their rehearsal dinner.
Squeezing a session into an already-packed wedding week isn’t easy, but this couple made it look effortless. Fresh off travel, dressed simply and beautifully — Alexa in a breezy white dress, Patrick in a soft chambray polo — we set out to capture the quiet, joy-filled moments before the whirlwind of “I do” truly began.
We started in one of the resort’s lush garden pockets, where oversized woven hanging chairs dangle from a sprawling, twisted tree — the kind of spot that feels plucked straight out of a travel magazine. The dappled light here was soft and forgiving, perfect for slow, easy portraits where Alexa and Patrick could just be themselves: foreheads together, quiet laughter, that little in-between moment right before a kiss.
What I love most about tropical gardens like this one is the texture — palm fronds, hibiscus, dense greenery — that gives every frame depth without ever competing with the couple.
From there, we made our way through the resort’s palm-lined walkways, where the Stellaris towers rise up behind rows of towering royal palms. There’s a boardwalk near the water that gave us gorgeous open sky and warm, golden backlighting — ideal for the kind of romantic, wind-in-the-hair portraits every couple dreams of for their engagement photos.
No Aruba session would be complete without time on the sand, and the beach here did not disappoint. Powder-soft white sand met impossibly clear, calm water, and Alexa walked hand-in-hand with Patrick along the shoreline. We caught genuine, easy moments — walking, talking, stealing glances — with the resort skyline and a distant sailboat rounding out the frame.
There’s a simplicity to beach portraits that I always come back to — just two people, the horizon, and all that open space. Alexa and Patrick leaned into it beautifully, giving me one of my favorite wide shots of the whole session.
I even snuck in a detail shot of Alexa’s white sandals next to Patrick’s dress shoes in the sand — a small, sweet reminder that they’d come from wedding-prep mode straight into this session, and were about to head right back into it for their rehearsal dinner.
Alexa wore a delicate heart necklace engraved with “A&P” and their wedding date — the kind of detail that’s easy to miss in the moment but becomes priceless in photographs. We made sure to capture it up close, along with her ring nestled against sun-bleached rope and coral rock for a few artistic detail shots.
We wrapped things up back near the sand, tucked beside a leaning palm tree that gave us one more soft, intimate backdrop — Alexa laughing, Patrick kissing her cheek, both of them clearly just happy to have a quiet minute together before the rest of the wedding festivities took over.
Alexa and Patrick, thank you for carving out this time on such a busy day. Sessions like this are a beautiful reminder that even in the middle of wedding week chaos, it’s worth pausing to soak in the moment — palm trees, ocean breeze, and all.
