Referrals are so incredible. I can’t even think what life would look like not to have a relationship with people. Ashley and Joe are one of those couples. They found us through one of our past couples Abby and Eric, one of our 2016 couples. Ashley and Joe are wonderful people. And their families are also so sweet. We met Ashley and Joe in person at their engagement shoot and what was probably one of the hottest engagement sessions of the entire year, maybe even two years. Joe had just returned from Kuwait from deployment so we were so pumped to be able to spend some time with him pre-wedding day and get to know them at dinner.
Now let’s fast forward to the wedding day! I was especially excited for this wedding because Ashley and Joe had a pretty small bridal party. Small bridal parties allow people to spend less time taking photos, and more time with family friends. For us, those couples also tend to spend more money on the pretty stuff, while still being intentional with people and their families and friends.
Patrick met the guys at Army Navy Country Club. Upon arrival the guys had just finished up a game of golf. Maggie met the girls at the hotel where Ashley got ready in the presence of her mom and sister. About 16 women showed up soon after to have an organized toast honoring Ashley. Ashley also shared a really sweet Dad reveal. She is one of two sisters, and her sister just hired us for her wedding! Woot Woot! Ashley and Joe opted not to do a first look due to their bridal party counts and smaller family. The two of them said “I do” in front of family and friends in a beautiful church in DC. Following the ceremony family and friends joined a gorgeous cocktail hour with DC views at the beautiful Army Navy Country Club. It was our first time shooting there so it was very special for us to be at a new venue in the heart of DC.
Ashley and Joe were amazing as they let us take them throughout the property for beautiful portraits. But they were ready to party and we were ready to document it. They joined their cocktail hour as Patrick and I prepped for a reception. As we photographed the details it was super fun to see that Ashley had surprised Joe with a groom cake and of course incorporated his love for golf with a cute statue of her dragging him off the course. Ashley’s sister gave the sweetest speech so honoring and Joe’s best friend clearly made it known who Joe is as a person as a friend as a son.
The night would not be complete without a desert/candy bar, sparklers and a congo line! Ashley and Joe, we love you guys, we are so grateful and had such a great time documenting your day and love story! We wish you the best of luck and can’t wait to see you at another family wedding!
