Today on the blog is Sam and Jake’s wedding! As you’ll see, these two love Harry Potter. They incorporated that theme into their wedding day in many different ways. The day started with the girls getting ready at Sam’s parents house, and Jake getting ready at Eagles Nest. It ended up being a rainy day, but everyone stayed positive and excited for the day, which is the most important!! We got Sam ready in her childhood bedroom which was really special. She had thoughtful details like a charm for her dog that passed away, and a beautiful Harry Potter ring box. I loved the details of her invitation suite, which was beautifully created by Just Ink on Paper. Once Sam was dressed, we did a bridesmaid reveal + a really sweet reveal with her dad (we all cried). She opened a gift from her soon to be husband, Jake, which was a beautiful vinyl record printed with the lyrics to their first dance song. We did some bridesmaids photos in the kitchen of her family home before heading to the venue for the ceremony! Jake was there getting ready with his guys and Corina, our awesome second shooter. Ceremony was moved inside due to the rain, and the florals and drapery around the chuppah made the room come to life. After the ceremony, guests went into cocktail hour and we did family photos + wedding party portraits in the ceremony space using their florals and chuppah as a backdrop. Once we had the formal photos done, we grabbed umbrellas and went outside with the wedding party while the Eagles Nest team flipped the room into a beautiful reception space. It was definitely raining, but everyone was flexible and in good spirits, so we got in some fun wedding party + newlywed photos with umbrellas before it started to pour.
Like I mentioned at the beginning of the post, when everyone is positive and spirits are high, we can make rain photos beautiful! We went back inside when the rain picked up more, and our bride + groom were able to join cocktail hour and mingle with family and friends. While they did that, we went over to the reception space to photograph all of the amazing details. And here is where the Harry Potter theme really shone! From the light up wand over the sweetheart table, to the bride + groom’s custom champagne flutes, and the potions on every table, every detail was thought of. My favorite part was the dessert bar – there was a gorgeous Harry Potter themed cake made by Sam’s cousin (Christina’s Creations) that was decorated to look like Marauder’s Map, and even had a golden snitch on it! The cake was among an assortment of cupcakes perfectly decorated and arranged into the different houses. Make sure you scroll to see it! Once the family + wedding party entered for reception, the newlyweds made their grand entrance and went right into their first dance. The night went on with several heartfelt toasts from family and friends, parent dances, an anniversary dance, and when the dance floor opened the party kept rocking for the rest of the night! The rain had stopped, so we snuck out with Sam + Jake to get some night portraits of them – I love these photos of them dancing and twirling outside their reception. They went back in and rocked the dance floor, and we ended the night with a glowy wand send off.
It was a beautiful day – Sam and Jake are great people and it’s easy to see their genuine love for each other, as well as their family + friends that surrounded them. So much joy! We were honored to photograph this wedding and wish the newlyweds a very happy ever after!
