Every summer our family ventures off to what we feel like is heaven on earth. We drive 12 hours north and find ourselves isolated in a cabin, 15 feet from a crystal clear lake. We don’t like sharing where exactly we go, as its sacred and precious to us… and we like it that way, free from tourists and lake hunters.
This summer was a special summer as Katie and Matt met us up there after their honeymoon. Our first few nights with them we talked about their wedding, we shared pictures and videos, and shared with Matt all these stories from years past. We’ve been coming here since my parents were engaged. This place is a 2nd home.
This year was neat. Josh flew in from Colorado. Becky brought a friend this year, named Dina, and they came up via bus. Katie and Matt drove up from NYC. Zach and Lauren were not able to come up this year due to work, but we are hopeful they join us next year.
The week away is spent swimming, sleeping, eating, sailing, kayaking, boating, fishing, hiking, exploring, and shopping. This year, like most years, our dear friend Denny O’Brien joined us and we did an all day boat day, out on the lake. Super fun! We took Snickers this year as an 8 year old dog… she hadn’t come with us on vacation since she was a year old pup.
On the rainy days, or days we don’t want to be out on the water, we are out on adventures, vising new shoppes, trying new places, and more! Sometimes we lay low with a fire burning and a board game or two of Clue or Catan. This normally includes some yelling, shouting, and laughing… maybe dice throwing too.
This year we tried a new place we hadn’t been too. A creamery in the middle of nowhere that has a honor system for buying ice cream. Seriously, this place was a treasure. Can’t wait to go back in the future.
As usual, the week flies by while we are there. It’s always so enjoyable and beautiful, rain or shine. The next few pictures are some of my favorite from when we were out at dusk on the water!
At the end of another great trip, we always have some great stories, beautiful memories, and things to look forward to in the future. I can’t wait to share this place with Patrick, my soon-to-be hubby, who will join us next year!
We headed south, first to drop Dina and Becky off in NYC, and then to keep truckin home to Baltimore. Can’t wait to do it all over again!
Thanks again for another amazing summer. See you next year!
