Some love stories are written in the stars—others begin on the dance floor. Mary and Spencer’s wedding at Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City was the perfect celebration of a romance that sparked at another one of our weddings years ago. Back in 2016, both Mary and Spencer were in the wedding party for Kaitlin and Scott. They met at the reception, shared a dance, and as it turns out, that was the very beginning of their love story.
Fast forward to today, and that same couple—Kaitlin and Scott—were guests at this wedding. Even more special? Scott stood beside Spencer as his best man. These are the kinds of full-circle moments that remind us how lucky we are to do what we do.
Mary knew from the beginning that she wanted us to photograph her wedding, and we were so honored to be a part of such a meaningful day. The celebration was filled with personal touches, beautiful moments, and so many familiar faces—including Genevieve and Alex, another one of our beloved past couples!
The day began with the girls getting ready onsite at a hair and makeup salon—such a convenient (and fun) spot for a morning of glam. Meanwhile, the guys got ready in one of the newly renovated suites at the resort. Patrick hung with the guys and rocked the groom’s portraits and separates, while I headed to the church with the ladies.
Mary and Spencer tied the knot at a beautiful church perched on a hill in historic Ellicott City—the very same church where Mary’s parents were married. There’s something extra special about continuing a family legacy like that, and it added even more depth to the already emotional ceremony. Since they chose not to do a first look, watching Spencer see Mary for the first time as she walked down the aisle was a moment I won’t forget—so full of love and awe.
After the ceremony, guests made their way to Turf Valley for a lovely outdoor cocktail hour just outside the Waterford Ballroom. One of the perks of having a larger gap between the ceremony and reception (especially if you’re not doing a first look) is that the couple actually gets to attend cocktail hour—and that’s exactly what Mary and Spencer did! They mingled, hugged, and laughed with their favorite people before intros and the reception kicked off.
The ballroom looked incredible, the food was delicious, and the energy was electric thanks to one of our favorite DJs in town—Brian Crowe from Crow Entertainment. He knows how to bring the party, and this crowd came ready to dance. From sentimental speeches by the best man, maid of honor, and parents, to sweet parent dances—Mary with her dad and Spencer with his mom—it was all heartfelt and joyful. Mary’s mom even had a favorite family dance song that brought everyone out on the floor, and the night just flowed with fun from there.
Mary and Spencer, thank you so much for choosing us to document your day. It was an absolute joy to celebrate your love story and see it come full circle. Your wedding was stunning, meaningful, and so much fun. Wishing you a lifetime of love, dancing, and happy memories.
