Yah! Our first official shoot fo the new year! Alyssa and Sammy are kicking off our 2019 Wedding and Engagement season! We have a pretty big break between now and May with a wedding here and there and engagement sessions rare with this weather.
We totally lucked out! January 6th, sunny, and beautiful. Cold, but could have been so much worst! Sammy and Alyssa are our super cute southern couple who live in Raleigh, NC! They came up into town for their session and to visit family. It was totally fitting to do their engagement session at a sentimental place. A park where they walked their dogs, and place visited often with family and pups.
Our time with Alyssa and Sammy was special. We got to know them, learn ab
2006 in Tulsa Oklahoma. I think that’s the year we met. Halie and I have been friends for over 10 years!!!
We were roommates in college, we took adventures together, spent hours and days together talking, crying, praying, dreaming, and hoping for things to come. We prayed for our husbands, prayed for careers, prayed for dreams and aspirations to become realities. Little did we know when we would graduate what the future would hold.
Halie was in our wedding in 2013, and the last time I saw her was on our Honeymoon a week later in Florida.
In the summer of 2018 Halie and Jonathan got engaged and invited us to their July 2019 Florida wedding as guests and we were so pumped. We haven’t been guests to a wedding in years, literally. Later in the year, Halie called me to let me know they were not only moving their wedding to New York, but to December, the week of Christmas. Of course we would be there, and I knew we would be there in whatever capacity she wanted!
We’ve never done this and we thought it would be awesome to share. We get a lot of compliments on our work and our personalities and our professionalism, so we figured it would be appropriate to share some of our 2018 Behind the Scenes to show the not so glamorous part of our job… some embarrassing and some hilarious… What an amazing year we had, we hope you had an incredible 2018 too.
We are so so so pumped to be sharing this wedding. What a crew, what a party, what a couple. Our second to last wedding of the year was unreal. The day started with a pretty high chance of rain, and it totally changed. My dream wedding day is partly cloudy, sun hidden, and rain at the end of the night, and that’s exactly what these two go. I know we are crazy, but it’s the best coloration. No one is squinky or sweaty. Cold is still beautiful weather and as I tell all my bridesmaid as they shiver in the cold “pretend I just flew you to Maui” and then they laugh as I remind them it could be a lot worse, it could be blizzarding or pouring rain.
As they shared their first look, their bridal party cheered from afar and we were able to get all their portraits, wedding party and family photos finished before the heavy mist and the start of rain came. Lauren is a lacrosse coach at Mt. St. Mary’s so it was pretty special they got married in the chapel and a her team even came to the ceremony to rally around them!
This Sunday wedding in December felt like a Spring wedding with overcast skies and warmer clients. We couldn’t believe that with a 48 hour window, one day felt like winter freezes and the next day was a spring day. We met these cuties through James’ family as we photographed his sisters wedding 2.5 years ago.
James and Jessica had a really special day as the majority of the day was spent at their new home in Silver Spring. Together they bought 10 acres, an old horse farm, and all of their portraits from their first look, to their wedding party, to their family portraits were in and outside their home.
They wanted a winter feel to their photos, so we wove in furs, luxury details and home decor that would capture their love story, their fashion preferences and their sweet love. And of course some winter Christmas trees too.
We’ve never attended or shot a wedding where there was so much smiling and so much laughing, especially during a ceremony. Courtney and Ryan had a beautiful Maritime Museum Wedding in December in Fells Point. If we had to summarize this wedding, it would be in words. Hockey, Beer, Brunch, Laughter, and genuine sweetness. This is our second couple this year to have a common love of hockey, beer, and their friends and family. This wedding is special to us because this is not our first time working with this family. We shot Courtney’s sister Carrie’s wedding in 2016, still can’t believe they’ve been married 2 years!
This wedding was probably our most looked forward to wedding. Our favorite weddings aren’t always our $100k+ weddings, they also can be our elopements or 50 person weddings. Most the time our favorite weddings are the ones where our couples are sweet, down to earth and phenomenal to work with. Shooting Sarah and Graysons wedding was one of my favorites for sure because Sarah is like family and she’s worked with us for 3 years!
Sarah has been in our lives for the last 3 years… Grayson too. We met Sarah through one of our other couples and we hired her to be our assistant. Over the last 3 years she has been a crucial part of our growth, our success and our family. Zeke loves her Aunt Sarah, and Sarah has become an incredible photographer. She now leads our secondary team and has her own wedding through Living Radiant.
We’ve photographed many Jewish weddings, but for some reason, Rachel and Bens wedding and Ketubah signing was so cool and so special. Maybe it was just the fact that our couple was so close to their Rabbi that it made it even more sentimental.
Rachel and Ben were the last of our November weddings. It had rained so much leading up to their wedding day that we were all relieved when there was no rain on their wedding day.
Let’s just start with saying the dinner was the best part haha. We discovered during their engagement session that we all love Indian food and decided we should try a new place that none of us had been to. That way if we had a great experience, it would be a win, and if it was horrible, we’d had a good laugh and story. Kelsey and Chad, how much fun… you guys were so much fun to spend time with. If your wedding day is going to be anything like your session, holy moly, it’s gonna be awesome!!
The leaves were falling and fading and we knew we had to get Kelsey and Matt their fall engagement session they wanted. November was so so wet, like I remember more rainy days than sunny days in November. We finally got these guys scheduled and they met us out at Centennial Park. The day was windy but beautiful and we were so excited there were still a lot of coloration for these lovebirds. Our time with them was so much fun. We were bummed we couldn’t do their double date afterwards to dinner or lunch but they did come back and have some of my famous chai in our home… (Kelsey, it’s the best, isn’t it!?) We are so excited to see you guys again and do our date!
