We are always honored when other skilled photographers hire us to shoot their wedding. When we first met Nicole and Ray, I remember driving home from our time with them, after eating ice cream curbside. I told Patrick “I really like them.” I was intimidated initially by Nicole. She’s beautiful, fun, spontaneous. I wasn’t used to being around a bride at an engagement session who was so confident and fun, treating me like a friend I’ve known forever, right off the bat. Most couples go into their engagement session nervous, and a little closed off.
Nicole and Ray got married at a venue we had never shot before and what a beautiful venue Kylan Barn is! New venues are so fun for us. We have to figure out how we are going to light it for reception, where portraits will happen depending on lighting situations day of.
The morning of the wedding, we pulled up to Kylan Barn and I immediately said, this is going to be awesome.
I walked into a beautiful white washed bridal suite where girls giggled and laughed out loud as they were wrapping up hair and makeup. I saw Nicole, she looked incredible. Then I saw her dress and immediately knew I would hang it outside on the white washed barn doors that would later open for reception. What a stunner!
Ray and the guys got ready at the coolest spot… a renovated airstream, and right outside of it patio furniture, hanging cafe lights, and handsome men hanging out.
Nicole had requested to do a first look shared with her dad and 2 brothers. As a sister myself with brothers, I thought that was sooo special, and so sweet.
The lighting was so harsh that day, making pre-ceremony portraits tricky for us as we wanted to ensure Ray and Nicole didn’t bump into each other prior to ceremony.
The ceremony was beautiful. The floral statement, the barrels, and signage all added to an already gorgeous setting.
As Nicole came over the hill and walked down the aisle, she beamed and Ray lite up seeing her. As they were announced husband and wife and guests cheered, they danced out to join their families and bridal party.
As most of you know, I’m a sucker for details. And holy moly, did these guys have such fun details. From favors that were Big Chew personalized bubble gum (first ever in history!), one of my favorite desert bars by the amazing Truly Scrimptious, and a ladder covered In eucalyptus and frames. I especially loved the place cards! I did something similar for my wedding, so when I saw that, I was so happy.
Intros were fun and crazy, the bridal party so fun, and families so sweet. If you don’t know, Nicole and Ray LOVE to dance! The party rocked, the dances were sweet, and speeches highlighted what we knew about our couple… intentional, kind, and selfless. Though the day for us at some points felt chaotic due to our own challenges (when a flash broke, calling audibles due to lighting, wind and group numbers), the day really was amazing. We went home feeling so excited about what our couple would receive as their final gallery.
Nicole and Ray, we loved your day, love that we have friends in you, and can’t wait to see you guys again in the near future! We hope the rest of 2021 is the best yet and newlywed life is treating you oohhhhh so well!
